The Divorce Act is a federal law and applies across Canada. It is the law that applies when you want a divorce or are already divorced. It is used to ask the court to make an order relating to parenting arrangements, child support, or spousal support. However, the Divorce Act will not always deal with all the issues between the spouses. There are provincial laws that may apply in your divorce too, such as the Matrimonial Property Act and the Pension Benefits Act.
